Daughter of Earth and Tree, Free Ebooks
Published on February 13th, 2010 @ 06:50:17 pm , using 127 words, 39 views
Daughter of Earth and Tree, Book II of the Dark Moon Trilogy, is now available in ebook format. You can download a free PDF of this title on our home page. Just look under the graphic for Earth and Tree.
If you haven't read Daughter of Earth and Tree's predecessor, Daughter of Air and Storm, it is also available as a free PDF download. Because Earth and Tree was not written as a stand-alone title, we advise that you read Air and Storm before it, if you haven't already.
These free downloads will be accessible for the next two weeks, after which the print edition of Earth and Tree will be available for order at online bookstores or for special order at walk-in bookstores.
Happy Valentine's Day.

Tweaky Change

After several brainstorming conferences, which only took a few minutes, we have decided to change the name of our blog from the mundane "Bad Girls Publishing Blog" to something a bit more exciting, and silly: "Bad Girls Publishing Scribble and Scribe."
Hope you like.

A few years ago, Amazon.com instituted a change in their "ships within" tag. Books distributed by Lightning Source, Inc. until that time had been tagged with "ships within 24 hours" or something along those lines. After Amazon instituted their new policy, books distributed by Lightning Source were relegated to a "ships within 3-6 weeks" tag. Any small publisher wanting their titles to read "ships within 24 hours" had to join a program called Amazon Advantage and pay $30 per year to retain that 24-hour label. Of course, an Advantage member could add as many titles as they wanted to their list without incurring additional fees.
Not so long ago, we noticed Amazon's shipping tag had changed to "In Stock. Sold by and ships from Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available." The Amazon shipping tag on Bad Girls Publishing titles now reads "In Stock. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available. Only 1 left in stock--order soon (more on the way)." We have always loathed that additonal byline "only 1 left in stock..." It makes customers question whether that single copy is really going to be there if they order it or if someone else nabbed it only seconds ago.
We gave Amazon Advantage a two year trial, in which time only a single book was sold. (Admittedly, we only had one title published then, and still do, but more are "on the way.") In contrast to Amazon Advantage, most copies of the current title we have published have been sold by Barnes and Noble. Their shipping tag reads "Usually ships within 24 hours," and we do not have to pay them $30 per year for the privilege. Thus there will be a parting of the ways with Amazon Advantage and Bad Girls Publishing soon, and our "ships within" tag will no doubt be relegated back to a longer time frame, regardless of the fact that Lightning Source still ships our titles directly from their facilities within 24 hours of notice of order. It's all a bunch of bosh.
Yet our titles will remain orderable from Amazon, with "gift-wrap available" no less. And we do participate in Amazon Marketplace. If you purchase from Marketplace, you will be buying directly from us, which we encourage, and you will receive autographed copies of whatever title you ordered--plus we ship within 48 hours. Also, you can buy directly from us at our Bad Girls Publishing website, using Paypal's secure servers to check out, and we still ship within 48 hours. Most other online bookstores also carry our title(s), Barnes and Noble clearly being the most noble of all.

Post Script dated 16 September 2009: As of today, Amazon has left our "In Stock" label in place. We sure appreciate that!
